Generic: This type of wine is made from a variety of grapes. There is no single grape in large quantity.
Varietal: A varietal wine is made up of 75% of a particular grape, like Chardonnay wine is made of Chardonnay grapes.
Vintage: In vintage wine 95% of the wine is made of grapes that are harvested in a particular year. The year printed on the bottle indicates the year the grapes were harvested. Remaining 5% of the wine is fruit juice.
After selecting the category you need to taste the wine to check whether it is fine wine. A few points need to be kept in mind while you judge a fine wine. These are Aroma, Body, Bouquet, Nose, Acidity, Balance, Dry and Tannin. Experts look into each factor before selecting a fine wine. A few famous fine wines are:
- Dry Fino Sherry.
- Champagne and sparkling wine
- Sauvignon Blanc or Riesling
- California, Fume Blanc
- Crisp white wines like Macon
