Winery

In a winery grape and other fruit wine is produced. The winery could be adjacent to vineyards, where the grapes are planted. The winery could be at some other place too and they could buy grapes from vineyards through various channels. A traditional winery would own the vineyards and produce wines at the very place. Winery not only produces wine, some of them conduct tours for the visitors. There are wine tasting facilities also provided by the winery. In these wine-tasting sessions provided by the winery, visitors can taste sample wines, which would be marketed later on.

In the early days only religious people used to produce wine. They did it as a holy job; making wine was meant as a service for God. Over the years wine making became a professional job. Wine came out of religious boundary and now wine is part of happiness in daily life. Wine is seen as a celebratory product nowadays.

With increasing demand of wine, winery was the need of the hour. All over the world wherever the climate is suitable for wine making, wineries have sprung up. Initially the wineries in France and Italy were the best. The reason is the tailor made Mediterranean climate for vineyards. Now all over the world countries like Australia, New Zealand, Portugal, USA, South Africa, Argentina etc have a lot of wineries and are producing a huge amount of wine to fulfill the huge demand.

In an orthodox winery you would usually find the vineyard, taste room, storing area for wine barrels and main fermentation area. In some remote areas of France and Italy you can still find a traditional winery. A traditional winery would still use the old method to produce wine, even though the majority of wineries have now been modernized and use latest machinery to maximize production.
