Wine storage is very important if you manufacture wine. Storing wine is very necessary so that the fermentation takes place very well and the wine becomes very tasty. Wine storage is of three kinds, the first is how to store the opened wines, the second is how to store the wine for short term and the third is how to store the wine for long term. Wine storage is a very difficult task as there are many factors that are needed to be kept in mind.
Storing the opened bottle of table wine in a refrigerator is the best way to store your wines. If you manufacture wine at home and would like to store them for short term, below 6 months then you should keep the bottle cork closed tightly and the cork should always be dry. The place where the wine bottle is kept should be a place where there is no vibration. Don’t keep the bottles on the top of a refrigerator rack as it is a hot place and vibrates.
For long term wine storage of more that 6 months the wine storing place should be free from any vibration, dark and humid. High humidity is very important for keeping the cork from drying. The humidity should also not be too much as fungus or the label could loosen. Cellars in Scotland are one of the best for storing wine bottles. The cellar temperature is cold and is constant, which makes the wine ferment well.
The bottles in which you store the wine should have UV ray filters, which are built in the glass. The UV rays affect the human body and the taste and smell of the wine also. Vibrations affects the wine a lot so any kind of vibration whether man made of natural should be avoided. Never store any other item, which emanates an odor near the wine bottles. |
